WRITING JUST COMPLETED FOR NEXT ALBUM.....plus!!
Hello it’s me. Thomas, the guy wot writes the tunes.
Welcome Pug-Fans everywhere to 2007. Due to an enforced leisure period and two-thirds of the band swannin’ off to Australia I’ve been sitting in cold and dreary old Dublin town writing like an 8-handed octo-scribbler!! It’s actually been great for the writing to not be doing covers gigs for a while (bad on the finances though…..ouch), you can sometimes do so many covers gigs that they become tedious and dull and you just want to come home and smash the guitar over your own head and use the splinters of wood as kindling. It pushes the creative juices further and further back.
So now that I haven’t done a covers gig for a month I’ve been waking up and grabbing the guitar to write. Great feeling when it comes naturally, forcing it is hell. Kind of like a bowel movement.
Anyway…..I’ll give you some of the titles of songs written so far and I’ll do a silly brackety synopsis after each title. There’s Impressive as you are (Rutles/Wilburys), Limerance (Inspired by Michael Penn and probably going to sound like the aul’ mucker aswell. I can hear the Trons already, that’s Mellotrons for the uninitiated), Song for you (Gonna’ be a goody this one, difficult picking style going on a-la Dear Prudence and a favourite of Keith’s), A Snowfall in June (a song about the unpredictability of nature), Innervision (sparse melody with strong instrumental pieces, weird one but I like those), My Genius (This song is not quite finished yet though myself and Andy Partridge’s bits are. I’ve presented the track to Neil Hannon to maybe write some lyrics or a middle eight. Ray Davies to the fore on this one), Landsdowne Valley (A song about were I hung out and played as a kid. Right across from the family home on Kilworth Road in Drimnagh).
I have 5 full dictaphone tapes of bits and pieces to wade through and 2 c.d’s of myself and Andy messing about which could yield some cool stuff, so it’s not quite finished but the bulk of songs are together in my cheese-box so won’t be long now!!
In other “real” news it looks like Jollity will be available to download on I-Tunes in the next 4 to 6 weeks. We’ll keep you posted as to exactly when ok.
The MySpace pages are going wonderfully well. I mean pages as here’s one you may not have seen.
In other amazing news the world renowned U.S satellite radio station XM has picked up on The Pugs!! Mike Marrone and Jerry Rubino at The Loft to be precise. Anchor, It’s Nice To Be Nice and I Want You Back In My Life (For Mam) have been featured in recent weeks, thank you lads!!
KEEP IT UP…..
An amazing start to 2007 and a great launchpad for the next record which myself, Daragh and the band will endeavor to bring you this year…..
Love & peace – Thomas.xxxxx

Splendiferous news you’ve got your next batch of songs together…even better you’re describing a few of my favourites as inspiration (Michael Penn, Rutles, Ray Davies). Also great to hear there will be another collaboration with Mr. Partridge…Sir Andy Partridge to me. Thanks much for the update Thomas.
Yay! Obviously I can’t wait! I made some XM requests to (which I had XM! LOL) When do you go into the studio? Are there any surprise collaborations or guests we should know about? Hmmmm? Well no matter….I have NO doubt in my mind WHATSOEVER that the new stuff is completely smashing. You are one of those artists that I feel 100% confidence in buying SOUND UNHEARD and KNOW that it’s worth more than what I paid for it. I mean that Thomas!
Love, Ann
Your friend in Denver
hey pugwash…..how are we proles gonna overthrow the man without a union? return the forum, please! xo, h
KH is back again, and now what about a little KH mailorder spree? TW, this is very good news, good luck with further sonic bowel movements. Seriously love that band.
Gasping for more here in Oz… Mr. Putner is on tour and I’m hoping to see him in late February… looking forward to a Little Britain movie with a Pugwash soundtrack…!! : )
